I finally took a minute to check out Pink: The History of a Punk, Pretty, Powerful Color at the Museum at FIT. This thoughtful exhibit features approximately 80 pink ensembles from the 18th century to the present.
The exhibit touches on the association of the color pink and gender. Apparently, as late as the 1920s, public opinion was divided as to whether pink was for boys or for girls. The final decision seems to have been influenced by publicity surrounding millionaire Henry Huntington’s purchase of the paintings Blue Boy and Pinkie.
