draw raw

December 1 1950 is the birthday of Gary Panter, “new-wave” cartoonist, illustrator, painter and designer.

Gary Panter is well known for his comic Jimbo, his work in Raw magazine, and his set designs for the tv show Pee Wee’s Playhouse in the 80’s.

Panter claims to have been influenced by, among others, Frank Zappa’s art director Cal Schenkel, whose ad above totally perplexed young me when it appeared in my 1967 Marvel comic books.

I design books, magazines, and other communications, that POP! I blog about stuff that catches my eye.
