just a spoonful of sugar…

mary poppins
just watched the movie “Saving Mr. Banks” and loooved it’s candy-colored recreation of Los Angeles in 1961.
Author P.L. Travers (Emma Thompson) reluctantly flies to Disney Studios to meet with Walt Disney (Tom Hanks), who seeks to adapt her Mary Poppins books for the big screen.
(Point of comparison, Don Draper and Megan had their jolly holiday to Disneyland in 1965.)
The 1964 45’s above are from my wife’s personal collection.
She also owns a complete collection of 1966 batman cards.

I design books, magazines, and other communications, that POP! I blog about stuff that catches my eye.

  1. Loved this movie, but I have been MP obsessed since I was 5.

Have you watched Mary Poppins again after seeing Saving Mr. Banks? I’m wondering if MP will seem at all different after “peaking behind the curtain”…

      • No, I haven’t but I should. I really do wish that Walt had skipped the animated penguin sequence through. If as a child I never thought it was right. Walt should have listened to his author on that one.

That was pretty insightful, for a child.
I feel like every Disney movie since then has included a list of “mandatories” (“missing parent: check, musical sequence: check, funny animals: check…”) even when they don’t seem to fit.
